Dear Fellow Forerunner:
The Hope of Messianic Israel is not only our hope, it is the hope of the Holy One of Israel. And the fulfillment of this hope will give our Father His hearts desire--a people for His own possession.
We, as forerunners and leaders in Messianic Israel have been called by the Ruach HaKodesh to be used of Yahveh to fulfill His hope. But, just what is expected of each of us? And, what can we do to make The Hope of Messianic Israel a reality?
The first thing we can do is plan. For, as the old adage says, "if you fail to plan then you have planned to fail". And if we insure in our planning that we are not leaning on our own understanding, but rather we are allowing Yahveh to direct our ways, then we have a good prescription for accomplishing what our Lord intends for us to do in any given year (Proverbs 3:5-6)..
So what are our plans for 2000?
First, it is appropriate, especially for our many new allies, to recount how we got to where we are today. In the past quarter century the people of Israel have experienced dramatic changes in their understanding regarding the restoration of Israel. Initially Batya and I were the essential motivators in taking up the challenge of sharing the truths about the ultimate reunion of the two houses, Ephraim and Judah, and their return to the land of Israel. For some two decades declaring these truths to the multitudes who have had ears, but have not heard, and had eyes, but could not see, was often a lesson in frustration. However, the birth pangs have quickened, and in recent years, the message is finally being understood and embraced by a diverse array of people representing the House of Ephraim and the House of Judah. Then in the fall of 1998, with the enthusiastic push exerted by Rabbi Moshe Koniuchowsky, the years of faithfully breaking up fallow ground and planting seed finally produced an "organism" that has been appropriately called the Messianic Israel Alliance.
1999 saw the MIA double in size and hold its first conference--AMI 99 in Orlando in September. And, at the conference, the attendees at the Sense of Direction meeting, were introduced to a group of "shepherds" who would function as a Steering Committee for overall guidance and direction. They were Angus and Batya Wootten, Moshe and Rifka Koniuchowsky, Randy and Lori Dryer, David and Natalie Pavlick, Rene' and Miriam Bloch, Monte and Lin Judah, and Ralph and Maureen Messer.
And as the months that have passed we are seeing the Father use others shepherds to promote and guide the MIA, such as Scott and Jane Diffenderfer and Mordechai Silver both of whom are supporting and promoting the MIA with their resources and publications. And I'm sure that there will be many additions to this list in the future.
In addition to a Steering Committee we have people who are handling the mundane business aspects of running the MIA. While Messianic Israel Ministries (MIM) is providing basic administrative and logistical support it is quite apparent that we need a full time on site administrator for the MIA. And we are happy to report that Mark and Margaret Huey have agreed to accept this challenging position.
Mark and Margaret have been working with Lion and Lamb Ministries in Oklahoma. On loan from Lion and Lamb they played a key part in making AMI 99 a success. For the next few months they will work in Oklahoma, but they plan to be settled in Orlando before AMI 2000.
The mandate for another MIA conference was clearly expressed by the great majority of attendees at AMI 99. So AMI 2000 is scheduled for August 31st through September 3rd 2000. We have reserved the entire Grand Ballroom of the Clarion Hotel (site of AMI 99), and all the upstairs meeting rooms. This will allow us to handle more then double the number of attendees over last year (from 700 to 1500).
So starting in February, the administrative staff, under the guidance of the Steering Committee, will begin pulling together all of the parts for the conference. This includes a theme and speakers as well as the promotional aspects with the various groups already acquainted with the MIA. And the reality of generating financial resources for the MIA, for, and from the conference will be addressed.
Another important area is to encourage all who allied with the MIA to commit to some level of support and participation. But this support and commitment is a two way street. Therefore, the administrative staff, again working together with the Steering Committee will seek to provide this needed interaction, by not only producing the annual conference (and in due time, regional conferences), but also by communicating through a number of existing tools.
These tools include a newsletter (Herald), and eventually a magazine or newspaper. It is envisioned that this publication would publish articles by members, promote allied congregations, conferences, trips to Israel, support projects in the land, advertize the availability of resources such as tapes, books, videos, speakers, teachers, etc.
The Internet is increasingly becoming a vital tool for inexpensively reaching the entire world. So our goal would be to make maximum utilization of this and other media as resources permit.
Another major topic that needs to be addressed is the need for the development and distribution of educational materials that focus in on the correct understanding of the two sticks coming back together, and actually becoming one stick in the Father's hand. Examining where we are in light of Ezekiel 37 shows that the Father has not only started the process of uniting His people into one kingdom, He is beginning to cleanse them and direct them away from their idolatrous ways. In order to accomplish this task we believe the Father will encourage Messianic Leaders and teachers to develop educational materials that give the proper instruction on a number of issues with a two-house understanding. Materials, such as Torah portion commentaries and educational materials for youth are particularly important.
Our first step in providing these critically needed materials is to implement a project which we have named "Torah 2000." Basically Torah 2000 will be a series of fifty-two weekly commentaries, and each will be written by a different MIA congregational leader or teacher. And we would like your commentary in writing (on disk or email file), on tape, and even on video if available. We are still working on just how we will publish and distribute these commentaries, but whatever we do, we would like to have them ready for distribution at AMI 2000.
Torah 2000 will be a great vehicle to generate the points of contact and cooperation with congregations, congregational leaders and Torah teachers. Pulling this material together with the editing required and the resources required to publish and distribute will be a challenge. However, it is a challenge that we can handle if we all work together. The first step is for those who want to participate in this project to work out with Mark Huey the weekly Torah portion which they will be responsible for. Keep in mind, Torah portions should include New Covenant references and they should also include the two house theme.
Please let us know if you would like to participate in this project For now you can contact Mark at email: mark@mim.net, phone: 405 579-7774, mail 4019 Coventry Lane, Norman OK 73072.
I am sure that when each of us contemplates the possibilities for the future we can go on and on with virtually endless thoughts about what needs to be done. But, the reality of timing, and ascertaining exactly what the Yahveh wants to get done in the coming year must be our guide. It would be great if we could all sit down together, knowing that we had sufficient funding and resources to accomplish all our desires, and discuss these and future projects, and the practical ways to accomplish them. Hopefully, on Monday at AMI 2000 we will have this opportunity.
But for now lets get up and move out. Let us do what we can do today, while it is still day. For night cometh when no man can work (John 9:4). Having this attitude will insure that we leave footprints and not butt prints in the sands of time.
Teshuw'ah (Victory) b' Yeshua,
Member Steering Committee
